Lesson Nine: Investing in Your Startup

Your business might be the next best thing to sliced bread, but unless and until you put some Skin In The Game (great book, btw): nobody else is likely to do so.

And also: if you want to own it all and not have partners and people dipping into your profit and you want to be your own boss and answer to nobody else: you're going to have to foot the bill yourself to get things going. There's no way around it.

Now maybe you're a skilled person who has the ability to add value to your business in a lot of ways (hopefully sales!), or if you are skilled craftsman and can build your product (software or otherwise) and show the quality of your offer compared to the rest of the market - and ideally some sales traction to prove the concept: you're in a different league than the rest of us who will probably have to hire someone and actually pay them to build our Websites or our businesses in some other way. And yes: you're going to have to risk your personal fortune for the opportunity to have success.

That's the way it's always been and the way it'll always be in the marketplace.
